The Mayurpur airport or the Muirpur airport is sited in Muirpur locality of Sonbhadra district which is at a distance of 12 km from Renukoot. It is a private airport owned by the popular Aditya Birla Group. It is operated by Hindalco power plant and by the civil government. The airport is elevated at a height of 1122 feet above sea level which is about 342 meters and the airport has its coordinates at 24°07'33 North latitude and 083°02'36 East longitude. The runway is grounded at Asphalt surface and it is of length 4665 feet with 1422 m. The basic reason for this airport's establishment is to serve the NPTL and UPRVUNL power plants in Uttar Pradesh, for the very same reason the airport is built on the banks of Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar Lake. The main power plants for which the airport is used for are Vindhyanagar NTPC, Shaktinagar NTPC, Pipri UPRVUNL, Rihandnagar NTPC, Renusagar UPRVUNL, Obra UPRVUNL, Anpara UPRVUNL, Singrauli, Renusagar Hindalco and few more. Apart from power plants the airport also serves the district headquarters and the Northern coalfields Limited- NCL. The other major airports nearby Sonbhadra are Varanasi airport at 98 km and Bamrauli airport at 177 km.
